Most of my generation are part of the information society. Thoroughly connected through what sociologists call Internet Communication Technology (ICT), we are never but a qwerty keystroke away from an answer. Recently a PSFK (Pieres Fawkes) contributor linked to a Los Angeles Times’ article concerning the possible social effects of the Iphone’s and various smartphones’ ability to access the answer to almost any query–within seconds. As a result we may quickly becoming a generation of annoying know-it-alls. But is that necessarily bad? Years ago I read an article about the increasing of average IQ scores in the general population over the last 25 years, labeling the phenomena The Flynn Effect . Is this constant information flow the next logical extension and progression in human evolution? At some point isn’t humanity going to merge itself with nanotechnological enhancements that make life easier or quality of life better? Read the PSFK post here and The LA Times article here .
