I feel that sometimes I have to constantly, expressly justify this support that I have been so explicit about. Then I realize that I do not. This is not some sort of extension of tribalism. Anyone who knows me knows that I will rail against the forces within my own community with great conviction, if warranted. This is about a man who happens to be a great candidate, that decided the world was ready for a guy with his name, his look and his background to right the ship of a country that for far too long has ignored the world and gone its own way, doing its own thing. He brings us back into the fold-with an understanding and a life experience that matches the way this world works now. Not how Capitol Hill and the Beltway works- THE WORLD. Yes, he is half black. Yes, he does pickup votes because of that. (And maybe he even loses some in some backwater regions of this union of ours.)
His running is not some symbolic endeavor. He is not Al Sharpton. Nor is he Jesse Jackson. He is a far more prepared guy, with grounded , fleshed out ideas about the presidency, about us, and our direction. This is not about putting on a good show. Colin Powell if he had ever decided to run, may have been the first serious black presidential candidate. But serious is only okay to me. What Barrack Obama is, is legitimate. And that is even better. There is no mental midget in him, nor an obvious and ridiculous silver-spoon path. He is legitimate, from the way the money for this campaign has been raised to the scholars that surround him, to the way he has conducted himself, nothing is suspect. And Shepard Fairey agrees. (Well maybe not with all I just said, but in general.)
